TOTALLY get how Crank could get people wanting to try Crystal Meth....REQUIEM FOR A DREAM (the movie more than the book) fucking did that for me and amphetamines. Yes, the absolutely soul-destroying Sara Goldfarb (the mother) storyline. I was very lonely, isolated and depressed and also had an eating disorder...and, yeah, that movie 100% made me take the same regime of pills (amphetamine sulphate throughout the say, a barbiturate at night and then valium for the anxiety)...I ALSO ended up completely psychotic and getting sectioned.

A movie that low-key ruined my life (and I'm aware it's not even CLOSE to any kinda "Most disturbing" stuff) is "Irreversible"...not the two scenes that bother people (the looooooong rape scene or the fire-extinguisher scene) but just the very end with "LE TEMPS DETRUIT TOUT" ("Time Destroys Everything"; or, "Time Destroys All Things") 'cause IDK I've never been able to get it out of my head that there is literally NOTHING that will not eventually be completely destroyed by time

I've never seen Salo and I have no idea what it's about other than I know there's a shit ton of torture and rape. After watching this video I think it's important to highlight why people look down on this film, even the people that have never seen it before. I think the problem was that it used to be talked about like a Tom Six film for several years. Back in the day, when you were a young teen, you'd hype your friends up to rent The Human Centipede on DVD and watch it together at a sleepover, probably because you heard an older sibling or a classmate talk about how wild and fucked up it is, and how its impossible to watch without throwing up. To a 14 year old, who could usually just rent R18 DVDs without needing an ID as long as they're decently tall and not renting porn, this sounds like a really funny and crazy challenge. This trend went viral around middle school for years on end. Not being able to rent it out because of ID didn't matter at all either. You could just beg someone's older sibling. If nothing else worked out you could just torrent it and possibly download malware but hey fuck it. So the only time Salo was ever really brought up to my generation, who are now people in their late 20s, was as an adjacent viral film challenge. The difference is that even back then, Salo just sounded like a really insensitive "challenge" film. The human centipede was fun because at the end of the day, the concept was really fucking stupid and the so was the film. Salo didn't sound funny and stupid at all, it just sounded needlessly dark and that on its own doesn't really appeal to anyone.

I like "negative space" movies like this. They're not always narratively robust, but it's an interesting artistic expression. It would be kind of nice to have the ability to opt out of boring, meaningless slasher exposition and just switch POVs over to our killer friends, see what they're up to.

It's quite linear, almost a fantasy movie. A living screenplay's villain wants to prevent an actress from entering the fiction layer and rescuing the girl he's keeping captive, by vainly searching for the opening in the Palace and closing it before Nikki Grace finds it, such opening being "Axxon N.". The "marine from North Carolina" is David Lynch himself (there actually was a marine from NC named David Lynch) implying the characters are prisoners to the Author, and the final kiss is a passing of the baton symbolizing Nikki sacrificing herself in order to save a fictional character and ending up in the dead actresses' limbo at the end, from where she would eventually enter the "Twin Peaks" narrative universe in the final episode (when the reluctant Naido, disguises as the already dead Diane, sees another herself from inside the car while BOB-Cooper is doing the check in at the motel, meaning Nikki substitutes herself to Naido and sabotages BOB-Cooper's second attempt in time travel)! Camilla Rhodes herself blows us a kiss as if passing the baton (of rescuing her) to the audience. Grace Zabriskie is the older version of the very Lost Girl come to retroactively trigger Nikki's action to accept the role without drawing back despite the strange occurrences at the sets, with the meta-drifts already at play.
